Once the new construction is complete, these smaller pavilions will close and Delta will be merged into the new main area in Pavilion D.

The new hall will add a third floor to Room D and will be at least 20,000 square feet, according to the resolution. This is more than double the size of the two existing Sky Clubs, which currently occupy approximately 9,000 square feet and will be returned to the city upon completion of construction.

Atlanta airport officials say the construction, which is expected to cost around $33 million, will be financed by proceeds from airport bonds.

why we chose it

Sometimes it pays to make a big investment to reap the benefits of a great credit card. This is exactly the case with the Amex Platinum card. In exchange for the annual fee, you gain access to the Amex Membership Rewards program, which gives you access to partner airline and hotel transfers, as well as new travel and lifestyle credits. This card is also incredibly rewarding for travel purchases, helping you earn tons of Membership Rewards points toward your next rewards trip.

Advantages

  • The current welcome offer on this card is quite lucrative. TPG rates it at $1,600.
  • This card offers a long list of benefits, including access to Centurion Lounges, complimentary elite status at Hilton and Marriott, a minimum of $500 in annual bill credit and much more. (Registration is required for selected services.)
  • Amex Platinum offers access to a premium concierge service that can help you with everything from hard-to-get reservations to guides to help you plan your next vacation.

Unlike

  • The high annual fee is only worth it if you get the most out of the card. On rare occasions, travelers may not receive enough consideration to justify the cost.
  • Outside of the current welcome bonus, you only earn bigger rewards on certain airline tickets and hotel purchases, so it's not a great card for other spending categories.
  • The annual flight bill balance can be difficult to use compared to the broader travel balances of competing premium cards.
